Dr. Michael A. Ahearn is a dedicated general medicine physician and the founder of Ahearn & Associates Medical Center, serving the Kewanee community for over 30 years. He holds Board Certifications in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, and Integrative & Holistic Medicine.
Education & Training
Born and raised in Mexico, Dr. Ahearn earned his Physician-Surgeon degree with highest honors from the University of La Salle, Mexico City, in 1982. He completed his family practice residency at St. Luke's and Mercy Hospitals in Davenport, Iowa, in 1987 and furthered his education with a certification in acupuncture from Harvard Medical School in 2010.
Professional Experience
Since opening Ahearn & Associates in 2003, Dr. Ahearn has built a trusted practice, while also serving as Medical Director for numerous nursing homes across Illinois. In addition, he continues to work as an emergency room physician at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center. His passion for medicine extends beyond borders, having volunteered his expertise in Guatemala, Kenya, and South Africa, bringing care to underserved communities.
Volunteer Work & Global Outreach
Dr. Ahearn’s global medical missions include service trips to:
- Hospital De La Familia in Guatemala (2007, 2009, and 2017)
- The Matibabu Health Clinic in Kenya (2012)
- “2015 Living Hope Mission Trip” with Living of Hope to Cape Town, South Africa
These experiences have profoundly shaped his approach to medicine, fostering a deep understanding of different cultures and a focus on resourceful, compassionate care.

He also served as a principal investigator on numerous medical protocols. In 2013, he led the First Community Walk to Stop Diabetes in the Kewanee area, which became a top fundraiser nationwide.

When he's not at the clinic or on a medical mission, Dr. Ahearn cherishes moments with his wife Rebecca, stepson Austin, Bella, and family, as well as indulging in his love for reading, music, and movies.
